Nautis vs Claude: when your assistant needs a company behind it

Nautis vs Claude for founders: what Claude with connectors and Cowork already handles, when that is enough, and what a startup workspace adds on top.

By Baltej Singh, founder of Nautis · Updated Oct 31, 2026

Summarise

Claude is a general assistant that has grown connectors, scheduled work and desktop tools, so it only overlaps with a business operating system at the edges. If you already pay for it, the fair question is whether it can run your mornings as well.

For some, it can. This page tries to give you enough detail to tell whether you're one of them. All Claude details come from Anthropic's own pages as read on 31 October 2026.

Where the two products part ways: who holds the records

Claude works on your data wherever it is. Connect Gmail, Google Drive, Slack, Notion or HubSpot from a directory that listed 1,050 connectors when we read it, add files to a Project, and ask. Nothing has to move, and that is a real advantage, as you avoid migrating anything.

Nautis wants the records inside it: deals in the Fundraising CRM, cash in Startup Health, customers in the Leads CRM, tasks on boards, and contracts in data rooms. That is the cost of adopting it, and also its advantage. Its Chief of Staff can compare a late invoice against shrinking runway because both are structured records with dates and statuses, in the same place, with an owner.

A quick test: ask yourself where the current number of months of runway is written down. If the answer is a clean spreadsheet you keep updated, Claude can read it. If the answer is that you'd need to work it out, Claude can help you work it out today, and it may be out of date by next month.

What Claude already does for a founder

It covers a lot, and for many tasks it's the more capable tool. It has memory across conversations, web search, file creation and code execution, according to its pricing page. Paid plans add Projects, Research, Claude Code and the ability to hand off and schedule tasks.

Cowork is the feature closest to chief-of-staff work. You give it a goal, and it works across chosen folders and tools, then delivers finished work for review. Anthropic says you can schedule a task on any cadence and that it runs unattended, even with your laptop closed. Its page says deleting needs your approval, and an optional setting makes Claude show its plan and wait before anything significant. Connector actions can be set to Always allow, Needs approval or Blocked, and owners on Team and Enterprise can limit them across the organization.

That gives you the raw parts of a briefing and an approval step. For a founder comfortable writing clear instructions, the distance to a working daily summary is short.

Try this Friday test before you buy anything

Say you're a technical founder with a small team, using Linear, Gmail and a finance spreadsheet, and you owe investors a monthly update. Run this once, using Claude alone.

  1. Connect Linear, Gmail and the Google Drive folder holding your spreadsheet, then create a Project for the company with a page of context about goals and investors.
  2. Ask Claude for a draft of this month's investor update, with shipped work, revenue, burn, runway and three asks.
  3. Count how many facts you had to correct, and how many were missing because no connected tool held them.
  4. Schedule the same task for next month. Note what you'd have to update by hand for it to be right.
  5. Then ask it what needs your attention on Monday, and compare the answer with what you already knew.

If the draft came out nearly ready, and step four was a small chore, you've got your answer. Keep Claude and spend the money elsewhere. If you found yourself pasting in numbers, chasing investor statuses from old threads, and doubting the runway figure, then what you're missing is a place for the records. Read the top and bottom rows of that table together. Claude is much broader, while Nautis is more specific and holds more of the state.

Is Claude cheaper than Nautis?

Yes for one person. From about three people, Nautis's flat plan price is lower. As of October 2026, Claude offers a $0 option, Pro at $17 a month billed annually ($200 upfront) or $20 monthly, Max at $100 and Ultra at $200. Team seats start at $20 a seat billed annually or $25 monthly, for 2 to 150 people, with premium seats at $100 or $125. A self-serve Enterprise plan is $20 a seat billed annually, with a 20-seat minimum and usage billed at API rates. Usage limits apply across plans, and Cowork's page warns that it uses limits faster than chat.

Nautis charges by plan: Launch is $49 a month, Voyage $99 and Fleet $129, with 5, 10 or 25 team members and capped AI credits. Three people on Claude Team cost $60 to $75 a month, against $49 on Launch. Those aren't the same purchase, since you'd likely keep an assistant for code and research even with Nautis in place. Details are on our pricing page.

Three signs you've outgrown a general assistant alone

  • A second person needs the same picture. A Project is useful for you, but a team needs shared records with permissions. In Nautis the briefing is per organization, and Done or Dismiss changes it for everyone.
  • You're in a raise. A round involves dozens of investor statuses, documents and follow-ups over months, and a data room with access rules. A chat history is a poor place to keep that.
  • You need proof of what happened. When a teammate asks who approved the email to a customer, the Nautis Approval Center shows the request and its status, and the action sits in the audit log.

Nautis's weak points against Claude

  • It won't help you write code, and its general research abilities aren't the reason to buy it.
  • Its AI allowance is modest. Credits run out on each plan, and sending is blocked until they reset or you top up.
  • It launched in July 2026 with few independent reviews, while Anthropic's pricing page sets out enterprise controls such as SSO, SCIM and audit logs. Our guides don't list a formal certification.
  • It doesn't teach or enforce a management method, and it needs data to be useful, so your first week will be thinner than a capable assistant's first answer.
  • Connected-app actions aren't available over WhatsApp yet, so you'd use the app for those.

Should you use Claude and Nautis together?

That's a sensible setup for many startups. Nautis connects to Claude through an MCP connector, so Claude can work with your workspace from the app you already use. Keep the records in Nautis and use Claude for thinking, drafting and code. There's more on the same question from another angle in how Nautis compares with ChatGPT.

If you're still at the stage of one founder and no investors, skip the second bill for now. Come back when the Friday test starts to fail. For a broader view, see what an AI business operating system is.

FAQ

Can Claude act as an AI chief of staff?

To a useful degree, yes. With connectors, Projects, memory and scheduled tasks, it can produce a regular summary and draft follow-ups from what's in your tools. It won't keep structured company records for you, so its output depends on how current those tools are.

Is Claude Cowork available on all plans?

Not as of October 2026. Anthropic's Cowork page says it's rolling out to Pro, Max and Ultra, with more plans to follow, and it lists Team and Enterprise as well. Its $0 tier isn't listed there, so check your account.

Does Claude need my approval before acting?

It depends on your settings. Connector actions can be Always allow, Needs approval or Blocked, and Cowork says deleting needs approval, with an optional setting to show its plan first. Nautis defaults to Ask every time for each capability, and owners and admins handle approvals.

Can I use Claude with Nautis?

Yes. You can connect Nautis to Claude through an MCP connector. A workable split is Claude for general research, writing and code, with company records and approvals kept in Nautis.
