People compare these two because both promise to tell you what to do next. The answers they give differ. Motion looks at your deadlines, durations and calendar, then tells you which task to work on at 2:00 pm. Nautis looks at your pipeline, cash and approvals, then tells you what the company needs from you today.
A founder can reasonably want both. This page says which to start with, and where each one is the wrong purchase.
Five jobs, and which product was built for each
Start here, because most of the decision sits in this table. It uses Motion's product pages and pricing page as read in October 2026, and the Nautis help guides.
| Job | Motion | Nautis |
|---|---|---|
| Fit tasks around meetings automatically | Core feature. AI Calendar plans your day from deadlines, duration and priority | Not offered. Tasks have dates and owners, and you can ask it to block focus time, but it won't fit tasks around your meetings |
| Run projects on timelines | AI Project Manager, Gantt charts, workflows and dashboards; team capacity on Business AI | Task Boards with Outcome and KPI tasks, plus Outcome Workflows that turn a goal into a plan |
| Take meeting notes | AI Meeting Notetaker | Shows transcripts when Fathom, Fireflies or Read.ai is connected |
| See runway and investor pipeline | Not listed on the pages read | Startup Health and Fundraising CRM, surfaced in the daily briefing |
| Track sales, invoices and expenses | Connects to HubSpot and Salesforce; invoicing not listed | Leads CRM, Invoices and Expenses are built-in modules |
Motion also lists docs, a wiki, notes, AI chat and booking links. Nautis has Notes, Sheets, Meetings and booking pages. On those shared items, neither is the reason to buy.
How does Motion's scheduling differ from a Nautis briefing?
Motion's scheduling is about your hours, and the Nautis briefing is about the company's issues. Motion says that when meetings run long, it reshuffles your day and week in seconds, and it flags when your schedule exceeds your capacity. That is a live answer to the question of what fits today.
The Nautis Briefing is generated once each morning and stays the same all day unless you press Refresh. It won't move anything on your calendar. It ranks items under six groups, marks each Critical or Attention, and links to the source record. It's also per organization, so two people see the same list, whereas Motion plans each person's own calendar.
Monday to Wednesday for a technical solo founder
Take a solo technical founder shipping a feature, onboarding two customers and starting to talk to angels. The week could look like this.
- Monday, 9:00. Motion has placed four hours of feature work around two calls. In Nautis, the briefing says one customer invoice is overdue and lists today's two calls, with runway noted at the bottom.
- Monday, 2:00. A customer call runs 45 minutes over. Motion pushes the remaining feature work into Tuesday, and flags it if the week no longer fits. Nautis does nothing here, because a slipped task block isn't something it manages.
- Tuesday, 8:30. You tap Do it on the overdue invoice in Nautis, read the reminder on the card it prepares, approve it, and it goes. Motion could hold a task called chase invoice. The pages we read don't describe it sending invoice reminders, so you'd likely do that yourself or through another tool.
- Wednesday, 7:30. Before the angel meeting, you ask Commodore what's changed in revenue and burn since last month. It reads Startup Health. In Motion, those numbers would need to be somewhere it can reach, such as a doc you wrote.
If Monday at 2:00 is the moment you recognise, buy Motion. If Tuesday and Wednesday feel closer to your week, Nautis is the one that helps. For more on how the job shifts with size, see what a founder's day looks like by stage.
Nautis vs Motion on price
Motion's pricing page as of October 2026 has two tabs and a billing toggle that defaults to Pay annually (Save 33%). On the Teams tab, Pro AI is $19 a seat a month and Business AI $29 paying annually, or $29 and $49 paying monthly. On the Individuals tab, they're $29 and $39 paying annually, or $49 and $69 paying monthly. Motion offers a free trial, but that page doesn't state its length.
Pro AI includes 7,500 credits per seat and Business AI 15,000. Motion's seat math scales with headcount, while Nautis's plan price stays flat until you outgrow a team cap.
| Team size | Motion Pro AI | Motion Business AI | Nautis plan that fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 founder, using the Individuals figures | $29 | $39 | Launch, $49 |
| 4 people | $76 | $116 | Launch, $49 |
| 8 people | $152 | $232 | Voyage, $99 |
| 20 people | $380 | $580 | Fleet, $129 |
A solo founder pays less for Motion. Once a team reaches four or five people, the sums reverse, though AI credits in Nautis are capped per organization at 1,000, 2,000 or 2,600 a month, not per person. A team of 20 sharing 2,600 credits will run into that limit quickly. Nautis has no free tier after its 14-day trial, and yearly billing gives 2 months free. Full details are on the pricing page.
Where Motion wins outright
- Auto-scheduling. Nautis can block focus time when you ask, but it doesn't fit tasks around your meetings or rearrange your day. If you want that, no amount of Nautis configuration will get you there.
- Project depth. Gantt charts, team capacity planning, time tracking and dashboards are named Motion features. Nautis Task Boards offer Card, Table and Kanban views with no Gantt view in the guide.
- Native notes. Motion lists its own meeting notetaker. Nautis relies on a connected transcription tool for that.
- Maturity and paperwork. Motion's homepage states a formal security audit and encryption in transit and at rest. Nothing like that appears in the Nautis guides, and the product only launched publicly in July 2026, so reviews are scarce.
- Price for one person. The Individuals figures of $29 and $39 on annual billing both come in under Launch.
Where Nautis is the better fit, and where it falls short
Nautis suits the founder whose week is dominated by things a calendar can't show: a raise, a shrinking runway, a late payment, an unsigned document. The modules hold that information, and the Chief of Staff connects it, so a slow month of revenue and a falling runway appear in one list. It can prepare the follow-up and then ask before it acts, through the Approval Center and the Agent Autonomy settings.
Its limits apply here too. It doesn't teach or enforce a way of working. It only knows what the team has entered, so a workspace with empty finance modules will skip those items. It covers many functions, and a dedicated project tool will often go further than its boards. It's also more than a person managing their own time needs, and $49 a month is a lot for a to-do list.
Can you use Motion and Nautis together?
Yes, as long as you keep each one to its own job, though neither vendor's pages describe a direct link between them. A reasonable split is Motion for your personal calendar and engineering tasks, and Nautis for company records, investors and approvals. Keep tasks in one place or you'll update two boards and trust neither.
Before paying for both, try the cheaper fix: run only Nautis for two weeks with your existing calendar, or only Motion. If you keep opening the other problem in a spreadsheet, that's your answer about whether a second tool is worth it.
Who should choose which
- Motion: you're an individual or team whose problem is execution time. You lose afternoons to replanning, and you have real project timelines to manage.
- Nautis: you run fundraising, finance and sales yourself and want them in one place, as solo founders and seed-stage teams often do.
- Something else: if you only want a lighter planner, the other options to Motion include cheaper, narrower tools. If you want a full work management suite, see how Nautis compares with ClickUp.
FAQ
Does Nautis auto-schedule tasks like Motion?
No. Nautis tasks have start and due dates, owners and priorities, but it doesn't fit them around your meetings or rearrange your day, though it can block focus time when you ask. Motion's core feature is that automatic scheduling, so choose Motion if that's what you need.
Is Motion a CRM or finance tool?
Motion's pages read in October 2026 describe integrations with HubSpot and Salesforce, not a built-in CRM, and they don't list invoicing or runway tracking. Nautis includes a Leads CRM, Fundraising CRM, Invoices, Expenses and Startup Health. Neither Nautis nor Motion claims to be an accounting system.
How much does Motion cost compared to Nautis?
As of October 2026, Motion's Teams tab shows $19 or $29 a seat a month with annual billing, or $29 or $49 with monthly billing. Nautis costs $49, $99 or $129 a month per plan, covering up to 5, 10 or 25 team members. Motion is cheaper for one person and usually more expensive past four or five seats.
Which is better for a five-person startup?
It depends on what is slipping. If work is late because nobody can plan around meetings and dependencies, Motion addresses that directly. If the founder can't see runway, pipeline and investor conversations in one place, Nautis addresses that. Try each with a real week before deciding.
