Brand Kit

7 min readUpdated

What it does

Keeps every piece of your visual identity in one place — logos, colors, fonts, typography, imagery, written guidelines, voice & tone, and a custom letterhead — so your team always ships on-brand. You can create more than one kit if you run multiple products or sub-brands, and share any kit with people outside Nautis through a private link.

Who can use it

  • Anyone in your organization with read permission for the Brand Kit module.
  • Creating, editing, and deleting kits needs the matching permission. If your role doesn't have it, the Create New button is greyed out with a tooltip.
  • You must verify your email before you can create your first kit.

Where to find it

From the sidebar, open Marketing and click Brand Kit.

Step by step

Create your first brand kit

  1. On the Brand Kits page, click Create New in the top-right (or Create Your First Brand Kit if you don't have any yet).
  2. In the dialog, fill in the fields:
    • Name — for example, "Acme Product Brand Kit". Up to 100 characters.
    • Description (optional) — a one-line note about what this kit is for. Up to 500 characters.
    • Team members with access (optional) — pick people from your organization. They get to view and edit the kit alongside you.
  3. Click Create Brand Kit. Nautis opens the new kit so you can start adding assets.
Step by step

Open and edit a kit

  1. From the Brand Kits grid, click any card to open the kit.
  2. Inside the kit you'll see seven tabs along the top: Logos, Colors, Fonts, Typography, Guidelines, Imagery, Voice & Tone, and Letterhead.
  3. To rename the kit or change who can access it, click Edit in the kit header.
  4. To switch between kits, click the back arrow next to the kit name.
Step by step

Mark a kit as primary

If you have more than one kit, one of them is your primary kit — the one Nautis uses in other modules when no kit is specified.

  1. On the Brand Kits list, hover the kit card.
  2. Click the star icon to set it as primary. The badge moves to that card automatically.
Step by step

Upload logos

  1. Open the kit, then click the Logos tab.
  2. Click the add button. In the dialog, drop a logo file (SVG, PNG, JPG, JPEG, GIF, or WEBP) or paste a URL.
  3. Fill in:
    • Name — for example, "Primary horizontal logo".
    • Format — SVG, PNG, JPG, JPEG, GIF, or WEBP. Nautis pre-fills this from your file.
    • Logo Type — Primary, Secondary, Icon, Wordmark, Symbol, Horizontal, Vertical, or Monochrome.
    • Optional: minimum size, background color, and usage notes (for example, "use white version on dark backgrounds").
  4. Save. The logo appears in the grid with its format and file size.

Repeat for each variation. Your team can then download any logo from this tab.

Step by step

Define your colors

  1. Click the Colors tab, then add a new color.
  2. Fill in:
    • Color Name — for example, "Primary Blue".
    • Hex Color — for example, #3B82F6. Use the color picker if you want.
    • Color Type — Primary, Secondary, Accent, Neutral, Success, Warning, Error, or Info.
    • Description — what this color is for.
  3. Save. Each color is shown as a swatch with its hex code so anyone in the team can copy it.
Step by step

Add fonts

  1. Click the Fonts tab, then add a new font.
  2. Fill in:
    • Font Name — for example, "Primary Heading Font".
    • Font Family — the CSS font stack, for example 'Inter', sans-serif.
    • Font File — upload your font file, or paste a Font URL (for example, a Google Fonts link).
    • Font Weight — for example, 400,700.
    • Font Style — for example, normal or italic.
    • Web Font — toggle on if this font is meant for the web.
  3. Save.
Step by step

Build typography styles

  1. Click the Typography tab.
  2. Add a style and fill in:
    • Style Name — for example, "Heading 1".
    • HTML Element — h1 through h6, p, span, or div.
    • Font Size — for example, 24px or 1.5rem.
    • Line Height — for example, 1.4 or 32px.
    • Font Weight — for example, 400 or bold.
    • Color — for example, #000000.
    • Primary Font and Secondary Font (optional) — pick from the fonts you added.
  3. Save. Each style now shows a live preview using your fonts.
Step by step

Write guidelines

The Guidelines tab is where you write down the rules — when to use a logo, how to pair colors, how to handle imagery.

  1. Click Guidelines, then add a new guideline.
  2. Fill in:
    • Title — for example, "Logo Usage Guidelines".
    • Category — Logo, Colors, Typography, Imagery, Voice & Tone, Layout, or General.
    • Description — a short summary.
    • Content — the full text of the rule.
  3. Save.
Step by step

Voice & tone

  1. Open the Voice & Tone tab.
  2. Add a new guideline and fill in:
    • Guideline Name — for example, "Professional & Approachable".
    • Description — overall description of this voice and tone.
    • Characteristics — add traits one at a time (for example, "warm", "direct", "expert").
    • Do's and Don'ts — what to do and avoid when writing.
    • Examples — a few sentences that show the voice in action.
  3. Save. You can have several voices — one for your blog, another for support, and so on.
Step by step

Add imagery

  1. Open the Imagery tab.
  2. Add a new image and fill in:
    • Image Name — for example, "Hero Background Pattern".
    • Image File — upload an image, or paste an image URL.
    • Image Type — Pattern, Photo, Illustration, Icon, Background, Texture, or Graphic.
    • Category — Primary, Secondary, Social Media, Print, Web, or Marketing.
    • Description and Usage Notes — when to use this image.
  3. Save.
Step by step

Design your letterhead

The Letterhead tab lets you set a header and footer that Nautis applies to PDF exports across the app.

  1. Open the Letterhead tab.
  2. Pick a logo, an accent color, and your margins.
  3. Edit the header and footer HTML, page numbers, body font, and contact info (name, address, email, phone, website).
  4. Choose which modules should use this letterhead.
  5. Save your design. The preview on the right updates as you type.
Step by step

View brand kit analytics

  1. From the kit, click Analytics in the header.
  2. The analytics page shows Total Views, Unique Visitors, Total Activity, and Top Downloads.
  3. Scroll down for a breakdown by Browsers, Devices, and Countries, plus a full Activity table with who viewed or downloaded each asset and when.

Tips & limits

  • Your plan caps how many kits you can create each month. When you hit the limit, the Create New button opens a "Brand Kit Limit Reached" modal showing your current count and limit. Upgrade your plan to add more.
  • Logos, fonts, and imagery files share your organization's storage quota. Use SVG for logos when you can — it's smaller and stays sharp at any size.
  • Anything you share via a public link is read-only. The recipient can't edit your kit.
  • Hex colors must include the # (for example, #3B82F6).
  • If you delete an asset, that change is permanent — there's no undo.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have more than one brand kit?

Yes. Create one kit per product or sub-brand. Tag one as primary so other modules know which one to use by default.

How is the primary kit different from the others?

Other modules in Nautis pull from the primary kit when they auto-apply your brand. You can still pick a different kit manually in each module.

Who can edit a kit?

You, anyone you added in Team members with access when creating the kit, and anyone with the Brand Kit "update" role permission.

Does sharing a link give edit access?

No. Share links are read-only and can be set to expire. Use the team-access selector if you want someone to edit.

My team uploaded a font but it doesn't render in the preview.

Make sure the Font Family value matches the font file you uploaded, and that Web Font is toggled on for web use. For Google Fonts, paste the full stylesheet URL into Font URL.

What goes in the letterhead?

A logo, an accent color, header and footer text, and your business contact info. Nautis applies it to PDF exports for the modules you enable.

Can I see who looked at my brand kit?

Yes — open Analytics from the kit header. You'll see views, downloads, unique visitors, top assets, and a full activity log with timestamps.
