What it does
Most modules in Nautis let you attach files — pitch decks, contracts, financial models, photos, videos, and more. The upload experience is the same everywhere: a drop zone where you can drag a file in from your computer, or a click-to-browse picker. Files are stored against your organization and count toward your storage quota.
Who can use it
Anyone who can create or edit a record inside a module can attach files there. Some modules (such as Data Rooms or Documents & Templates) make file upload the main action; others (such as Tasks, Contacts, Notes, or Pitch Decks) accept attachments as part of the record.
Where to find it
Look for an Upload, Attach, or Add file button inside the module you are working with. Most upload dialogs include a dashed-border drop zone with text like Drag and drop a file here, or click to browse.
Uploading with drag-and-drop
- Open the create or edit dialog for the record you want to attach a file to.
- Locate the upload zone — it usually has a dashed border and an upload icon.
- Drag a file from your desktop or Finder/Explorer window onto the zone. The border highlights to confirm the drop target.
- Release the mouse. The filename appears in the zone with a remove icon next to it.
- Fill in any required metadata (title, category, description, and so on).
- Click Upload or Save to finish.
Uploading with the picker
- Click anywhere inside the upload zone (or the Browse / Choose file link if shown).
- Your operating system's file picker opens.
- Pick the file you want and confirm.
- The filename appears in the zone, ready to submit with the rest of the form.
Replacing or removing a selected file
- Before you submit the form, click the x icon next to the chosen filename to remove it.
- The zone resets, and you can drag or pick a different file.
- After the file is saved against the record, you can usually delete it from the record's detail view (for example by deleting the attachment row in a task, or by removing the file from a data room).
Supported file types
Each module accepts the formats that make sense for it:
- Documents & Templates — PDF, Word (.doc, .docx), Excel (.xls, .xlsx), PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx).
- Pitch Decks — PDF, PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx).
- Data Rooms — any common file type, including large videos and ZIP archives.
- Profile photos and logos — JPG, PNG, WEBP, and other common image formats.
- Tasks, Notes, Contacts — most everyday document and image types.
If a module rejects a file, a toast message tells you which formats are allowed.
File size limits
- Documents & Templates: up to 50 MB per file.
- Pitch Decks: up to 50 MB per deck.
- Data Rooms: up to 500 MB per file — use this module for large investor materials, video, or big spreadsheets.
- Other modules typically cap individual attachments at 10–50 MB.
If your file exceeds the limit you will see a File rejected toast with the allowed maximum.
Where your files live
- Every file is stored against your organization. Only people in that organization (with permission to the module) can see it.
- Uploaded files count toward your organization's Storage Usage quota. The total across every module is shown on the Storage Usage page.
- Deleting a file from a record removes it from storage and frees up that space.
Tips & limits
- Drag-and-drop only accepts one file at a time in most modules. To upload several files, repeat the upload or use a module that explicitly supports multi-file uploads (such as Data Rooms folders).
- Large files take longer — keep the tab open until the upload completes.
- Renaming a file on your computer before uploading is the easiest way to control how it appears in Nautis — the original filename is preserved.
- For external sharing of an uploaded file, see Sharing & public links.
Frequently asked questions
My file uploaded but is missing from the list — why?
The list usually refreshes automatically. If it does not, click the module's refresh button or reload the page. If the file still does not appear, check whether the upload was rejected by a toast notification.
Can I upload an entire folder at once?
Folder uploads are supported inside Data Rooms, which preserves the folder structure. Other modules accept one file per upload.
What happens when I hit my storage quota?
New uploads will be blocked with an error toast until you either delete some files or your organization upgrades its storage allotment. See Storage Usage for how to check and manage usage.
Are my files encrypted?
Files are stored on Nautis's secure infrastructure with the same protections as the rest of your workspace data. Chat messages and certain sensitive integrations are additionally encrypted at rest.
How do I share a file with someone outside Nautis?
Use Data Rooms to generate a tracked, optionally passcode-protected share link. For pitch decks, use the share dialog inside the deck. Other modules do not yet expose direct external links — download the file and send it manually if needed.
