Startup Journey

4 min readUpdated

What it does

The Startup Journey is a guided timeline of the stages, milestones, and tasks every early-stage company runs through — from idea to scale. You see what's next, mark tasks as you finish them, jot notes, and watch your overall progress climb.

Who can use it

  • Anyone in your organization with read access to the Journey module. Marking tasks and saving notes requires the same module permission with write rights. Super Admin gets this by default; other roles need it granted.
  • The Journey feature must be enabled for your organization. If it isn't, you'll see a "Feature disabled" message with a way to request access.

Where to find it

From the sidebar, open Profile & Company and click Journey Tracker.

What you'll see

The page is split into three columns on desktop:

  • Stages on the left — the high-level phases of your startup's life.
  • Milestones in the middle — the major goals inside the selected stage.
  • Tasks on the right — the actionable items inside the selected milestone.

Across the top you'll see Your Startup Journey and an Overall progress bar with a percentage. Each stage and milestone shows its own progress percentage next to it.

On a phone or narrow screen, the stage and milestone columns collapse into two dropdowns at the top of the tasks pane.

Step by step

Work through a task

  1. Pick a stage on the left. The milestones list refreshes for that stage.
  2. Pick a milestone in the middle. Its tasks appear on the right.
  3. For each task, you'll see the title, a priority badge, and any attached links, videos, or files.
  4. To read more, click Details to open a panel with the description and expected outcome.
  5. When you've finished the task, open the status dropdown on the right of the task and choose Completed. Nautis confirms with a "Task status updated" toast and your progress bars move up.
  6. If the task doesn't apply to your business, choose Not applicable instead — it still counts toward progress so you're not penalised for skipping items that aren't relevant.
  7. To re-open something you marked done, set the status back to Pending.
Step by step

Add a note to a task

  1. On the task row, click the Edit Note badge. A side panel slides in.
  2. Write your note in the rich-text editor. You can format text, add bullets, and so on.
  3. Click Save note. You'll see a "Note saved" toast and the panel closes.
  4. Notes are saved per task, so each task can hold its own context, decisions, or follow-up reminders.
Step by step

Open a task's resources

  1. On the task row, click the link icon, video icon, or file icon (each shows the number of items of that type).
  2. The Resources dialog opens listing every link, video, and file attached to that task.
  3. Use Open link to open a webpage in a new tab, Watch to play a video inside Nautis, or Download to fetch a file.
Step by step

Switch stages and milestones

  1. On desktop, click any stage card on the left, then any milestone card in the middle. The selection sticks in the URL so you can bookmark or share a deep link.
  2. On mobile, use the Stage and Milestone dropdowns at the top of the tasks pane.

Tips & limits

  • Your overall progress reflects every task in every stage. Marking a milestone's tasks as Completed or Not applicable pushes its percentage up; that in turn lifts the stage and overall numbers.
  • Completed tasks get a green border; tasks marked Not applicable get a red border so you can scan for them quickly.
  • Task priority (High, Medium, Low, etc.) is shown as a badge on the task row to help you decide what to do next.
  • Resources are read-only here — the Journey templates are curated by Nautis. Capture your own context in the per-task Edit Note panel.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add my own tasks or milestones to the journey?

The default Journey content is curated by Nautis, so you can't add custom tasks here. Use the Task Board or Notes modules for your own to-dos.

What does "Not applicable" actually do?

It tells Nautis this task doesn't apply to your business so it stops counting as outstanding work. Your progress bars treat it the same as Completed.

Where do my task notes live?

They're attached to each task and visible only to people in your organization who have access to the Journey module.

Do my notes go away if I change a task's status?

No. Status and notes are independent — changing one doesn't touch the other.

Why didn't my progress percentage move when I completed a task?

The percentage rounds to a whole number. If a milestone has many tasks, finishing one might not be enough to bump the headline number. Keep going — it'll move soon.
